ARCNL says goodbye to Stefan Witte with a dedicated symposium
After ten years at ARCNL, group leader Stefan Witte has accepted a new role as full professor of Optics for Nanoscale Metrology at Delft University of Technology. On Wednesday, February 26th, ARCNL organized a symposium in honor of Stefan. The organizers invited various speakers who have played a role in Stefan’s scientific career and those who are part of his future endeavors.
In his new role Stefan will continue and expand research on new optical imaging technology for visualizing three-dimensional structures at small scales, as he started at ARCNL.
ARCNL experiences

When asked about his years at ARCNL, Stefan smiles happily, and he shares many good memories. “ARCNL is a great institute that is well organized. We do so much together and because of the relatively small scale, people really get a sense of belonging.”
Stefan was part of ARCNL right from the beginning, leading the EUV Generation and Imaging group. He remembers it well: “It started as a big experiment ten years ago and developed well. I am happy I got to be part of this. Also, working with ASML was a very positive experience.”
Future plans in Delft
At a certain point a new opportunity presented itself and Stefan decided to take it. “Delft has a nice Imaging Physics department, and I got to become full professor in this department. The technical university has many opportunities to work with other disciplines and there are many students with an interest in technical research. It is a good fit and a really nice new direction.”
