CV / Biography

Dion Engels studied Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). After finishing his bachelor’s in 2018, he led University Racing Eindhoven (URE), a student team for a year, developing a self-driving electric race car.

In 2019, he started a double master’s in Nuclear Fusion and Applied Physics, also at TU/e. Following an internship with the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald (online due to COVID-19), Dion did his graduation project at ARCNL within the group of Oscar Versolato. For his thesis, he studied the composition of tin vapor by making pictures of tin with many different wavelengths of light. He revealed that it consisted of nanoparticles and free atoms. Dion graduated in 2022, cum laude, with his thesis winning the prize for the best Applied Physics thesis of the year.

In August 2022, Dion started his PhD at ARCNL, continuing in the group of Oscar Versolato. He continues to collaborate closely with his colleagues focusing on tin vapor and fluid dynamic applications in EUV sources but his main research has shifted to 2um-wavelength laser-produced plasmas and their potential for future EUV sources.
