Contact Dynamics at Gordon Research Conference – Tribology 2024
In July 2024, the Contact Dynamics Group proudly represented the Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL) at the prestigious Gordon Research Conference (GRC) in Tribology. Recognized globally as one of the most esteemed scientific conferences, the GRC has, since its founding in 1931, fostered enduring scientific communities that advance the frontiers of research across biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and related disciplines.
The Contact Dynamics Group made a notable impact at GRC 2024 with two oral presentations and two poster presentations. Assoc. Prof. Bart Weber, the group leader, presented “Visualizing Nanoscale Wear of Stiff Multi-Contact Interfaces,” while Dr. Tunç Çiftçi, postdoctoral researcher, delivered a talk titled “Hysteresis in Adhesion through Locally Trapped Charges in Band-Gap Materials,” showcasing the latest findings and methodologies of the Contact Dynamics team at ARCNL.
In addition, Dr. Çiftçi presented a poster with the same title as his talk, alongside PhD student Cyrian Leriche, who presented “Tribochemical Wear of Micro-Crystalline Diamond is Accelerated in Dry Environment.” Each poster highlighted pioneering insights from the group’s research. A standout moment of the conference was the announcement of the Best Postdoc Research Award, which went to Dr. Çiftçi’s poster, recognizing his contributions that bring a new dimension to the field. This honor reflects the innovative research and dedication of the Contact Dynamics Group in advancing tribological science.
