Work Activities

Als onderzoekstechnicus verricht je technische werkzaamheden ter ondersteuning van fysische experimenten. Je helpt mee met het ontwerpen en bouwen van meetopstellingen, draagt zorg voor het onderhoud ervan en voert reparatie- en montagewerkzaamheden uit. De werkzaamheden bestaan uit onderhoud van lasers, het maken van (fijn)mechanische aanpassingen, het ontwerpen en testen van vacuümsystemen, en het testen en in gebruik stellen van elektronische randapparatuur. Constructie en uitlijning van optische opstellingen kan onderdeel zijn van het takenpakket. Je maakt deel uit van een onderzoeksgroep en werkt intensief samen met collega technici van andere onderzoeksgroepen en van de algemene ondersteunende technische afdelingen van ARCNL en het naastgelegen AMOLF.

As a research technician, you will perform technical work in support of physical experiments. You will help design and build measurement set-ups, take care of their maintenance and carry out repair and assembly work. The work includes maintenance of lasers, making (fine) mechanical adjustments, designing and testing vacuum systems, and testing and commissioning electronic peripherals. Construction and alignment of optical setups can be part of the work. You will be part of a research group and work closely with fellow technicians from other research groups and from the general support departments of ARCNL and neighbouring AMOLF.

Qualifications

Je beschikt over MBO of HBO werk en denkniveau op een relevant vakgebied (zie hierboven).  Het is een pre als je ervaring hebt met een of meer van de hierboven genoemde werkzaamheden, en affiniteit hebt met werken in een laser-laboratorium. Maar ook als je een starter bent die graag verder wilt leren, nodigen wij je uit om te solliciteren. Je bent flexibel, kan goed prioriteiten stellen, kan werken voor meerdere opdrachtgevers tegelijk en kan goed met hen en andere collega’s communiceren, zowel in het Nederlands als in het Engels.

You have a MBO or HBO degree in a relevant field (see above). It is an advantage if you have experience with one or more of the activities mentioned above, and have affinity with working in a laser laboratory. But even if you are a starter who would like to continue learning, we invite you to apply for this job. Work environment

Het Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL) verricht toonaangevend fundamenteel onderzoek aan de fysica en technologie van nanolithografie, in het bijzonder voor toepassing in de halfgeleiderindustrie. ARCNL is een publiek-private samenwerking tussen de Stichting Nederlandse Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Instituten (NWO-I), de Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA), de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) en de fabrikant van halfgeleiderapparatuur ASML. Je zal deel uitmaken van een of meerdere onderzoeksgroepen bij de afdeling metrologie.

ARCNL performs fundamental research, focusing on the physics and chemistry involved in current and future key technologies in nanolithography, primarily for the semiconductor industry. While the academic setting and research style are geared towards establishing scientific excellence, the topics in ARCNL’s research program are intimately connected with the interests of the industrial partner ASML. The institute is located at Amsterdam Science Park and currently employs about 100 persons of which 65 are ambitious (young) researchers from all over the globe. www.arcnl.nl

You will be part of one or more research groups in the metrology department.

Working conditions

• De sfeer op ARCNL wordt in hoge mate bepaald door jonge, enthousiaste medewerkers. De communicatie is informeel en verloopt via korte lijnen.
• Het betreft een voltijds dienstverband van twintig maanden, met de intentie van een aansluitend vast dienstverband.
• Inschaling vindt, afhankelijk van relevante kennis, diploma en ervaring, plaats in schaal 6 tot 8; maximaal € 4.138 (excl. vakantiegeld van 8% en een eindejaarsuitkering van 8,33%).
• De secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarden zijn uitstekend. Training on the job en studiefaciliteiten zijn vanzelfsprekend.

• The working atmosphere at the institute is largely determined by young, enthusiastic, mostly foreign employees. Communication is informal and runs through short lines of communication.
• The position is for 40 hours per week and an employment contract for twenty months, with the intention of subsequently offering permanent employment.
• Salary is in scale 6 thru 8, with a maximum of € 4,138.00 gross per month (depending on your relevant knowledge, education and experience), plus a holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus.
